Should I use the PCL or PostScript driver?

Two printer drivers are supplied with your printer: one for PCL emulation and the other for PostScript 3 emulation.

OKI ES8461 MC861 Printer Driver Installation instructions for the purpose of this explanation we will describe installing a MC861 driver.

These instructions are for installing your printer using an ethernet connection. Before proceeding you will need to decide on an appropriate IP address.

There are three reasons why you might me following thse instructions:-

  1. You have a new computer and need to install the driver click this link
  2. You have a new printer click this link
  3. You have moved, changed broadband supplier click this link

Download the OKI ES8460 Network Guide

You have a new PC and want to print to an existing network printer

You need to find the existing IP Address for your printer.

You have bought a new printer

If you have bought a new printer and its an OKI, plug the printer into a working network port or directly into a Network switch or the Router directly. The printer will come set on AUTO and will negotiate an IP address from your router. This will usually be the next available IP address, you could continue with this address, but you may experience network address conflict issues. We recommend setting the printer high in your address range. Example if the Router has assigned the IP address 192.168.0.22 we would recommend setting the IP Address manually at 192.168.0.197. You would need to connect 177 network devices before a conflict would occur. Of course if you were a Network engineer or you have an IT department you could ask them to reserve and IP Address for the printer.

You have moved, changed broadband supplier

If you move, get a new router or change broadband supplier, there is a very good chance that you will experience problems. First thing to do is obtain a Configuration Report from your printer - Press [Reports] select [Config] and select [Yes]. On the third page of the Configuration Report you will see the current Network settings.

The easiest way to reset the printer, to suit your new location, router, ISP setting is to reset the printer to AUTO IP Address and let it re acquire your network settings.
